MHFAiders® are essential to maintaining employee wellbeing.

This mental health first aid in the workplace training is run by an MHFA England Accredited Instructor, and trains individuals to act as a point of contact for employees who are experiencing poor mental health or emotional distress.

The training will support learners to:

  • Gain the knowledge and skills to spot the signs of a colleague experiencing poor mental health
  • Be confident starting a conversation and signpost to appropriate support
  • Understand the boundaries of the role

Format: 

  • This is a two-day course delivered via online video conferencing (can be split into 4 half-days) depending on your preference. The duration of the course is 7 hours and 30 minutes per day.
  • We limit numbers to 16 people per course so that the instructor can keep people safe and supported while they learn

  • A hard copy workbook to support their learning throughout the course
  • A digital manual to refer to whenever they need it​ after completing the course

Once you complete the Mental Health First Aid course, you can test your knowledge and build your confidence in your role as an MHFAider® with the internationally recognised MHFAider® qualification, RSPH Level 3 Award in Mental Health First Aid.

What the ‘Mental Health Aware’ workshop covers:

  • What mental health is and how to challenge stigma
  • A basic knowledge of some common mental health issues
  • An introduction to looking after your own mental health and maintaining wellbeing
  • Confidence to support someone in distress or who may be experiencing a mental health issue

Format:

  • This is a half day course delivered via online video conferencing
  • Learning takes place through a mix of presentations, group discussions and workshop activities
  • We limit numbers to 16 people per course so that the instructor can keep people safe and supported while they learn

MHFA Refresher

Need to refresh the Mental Health First Aid skills in your workplace?

What the ‘MHFA Refresher’ workshop covers:

Empower Mental Health First Aiders (MHFAiders®) to maintain their skills with regular Refresher training. The four-hour MHFA Refresher course will support your MHFAiders® by:

  • Renewing their skills
  • Updating their knowledge of mental health supports
  • Giving them the chance to practice applying the Mental Health First Aid action plan
  • Providing them access to three years of MHFAider® support and benefits

How often should MHFA England skills be refreshed?

We believe that mental health should be treated equally to physical health – and just like physical first aid, Mental Health First Aid training should be kept up to-date. We recommend MHFA Refresher training every three years.
