Legislative Updates
Code of Practice on Dismissal and Re-engagement Now in Effect
The statutory Code of Practice on Dismissal and Re-engagement, often referred to as ‘fire and re-hire,’ is now in effect. The Code underscores that dismissal and re-engagement should only be considered as a final option, following a comprehensive consultation process with the affected employee.
Mental Health at Work
Employers should be mindful of forthcoming updates to health and safety legislation, which the government aims to modernise for future needs. This includes raising awareness around neurodiversity and strengthening provisions to address stress and overall mental health in the workplace.
Supporting Disabled Employees in Hybrid Working
On 5th September, 2024, the Equality and Human Rights Commission released new guidance on supporting employees with disabilities in hybrid working environments. The guidelines provide practical advice for both recruitment and employment, helping employers navigate the key considerations for accommodating disabled workers. While not exhaustive, the guidance offers a solid framework for developing effective processes and ensuring best practices.
3 Top tips for creating psychological safety
Encourage open communication: Ensure team members feel comfortable sharing ideas and concerns without fear of judgment.
Normalise mistakes: Treat mistakes as learning opportunities to foster a culture of growth and continuous improvement.
Promote mutual respect and trust: Build an environment where respect and trust are foundational, making employees feel valued and supported.
3 Top tips when carrying out a wellbeing audit
Don’t forget about what other areas of the business might be doing that influences employee wellbeing. Recruitment practices, learning and development, or even equality, diversity and inclusion. That’s why it’s important to carry out an in-depth gap analysis.
Create an evidence-based survey, bespoke to your organisation – don’t rush choosing your questions, and think deeply about what you want to know and why.
Combine the data you’ve gained from both your completed gap analysis and survey results – use both sources of data equally to help you think not only about what interventions you might need to put in place, but also what current working practices might need updating.
