How to Measure Employee Wellbeing: Metrics and Tools

For wellbeing to be taken seriously as a strategic business driver, it needs to be measurable. Without clear data, wellbeing risks being seen as a “nice-to-have” rather than an essential part of organisational performance. Leaders want to know: if we invest in wellbeing, what difference will it make to our people — and to our business?

The Three Categories of Wellbeing Metrics

At SuperWellness, we build tracking and measurement directly into the solutions we deliver, so clients can demonstrate effectiveness from day one. We help organisations move beyond anecdotes by embedding practical, evidence-based metrics that highlight both progress and areas for improvement.

Subjective Measures

These capture how employees actually feel, such as job satisfaction, happiness versus stress, or sense of purpose. They provide a direct line into the lived experience of work. While subjective measures can be prone to survey fatigue, when embedded thoughtfully they remain the clearest window into employee wellbeing

Objective Measures

These draw from HR and operational data like sickness absence, retention, turnover, or productivity. They’re often business-critical and easier to link to financial outcomes. However, the data must be gathered consistently across departments to provide reliable insights.

Participation & Engagement

These look at indicators such as attendance at wellbeing events, uptake of resources, or activity within wellbeing champion networks. While they don’t measure outcomes in isolation, they show traction and act as stepping-stones toward shifting the bigger outcome metrics

Our Wellbeing Metrics Solutions

Our tracking and measurement solutions are designed so that the right mix of these measures is built into your wellbeing strategy from the start.

1

Wellbeing Engagement Dashboard

Gives leaders instant access to participation and outcome data. This means you can monitor attendance, track engagement, and align initiatives with both employee needs and business priorities.

2

Log Your Conversation

An inbuilt feature of our Wellbeing Insiders Platform that enables wellbeing teams, champions, and mental health first aiders to securely log one-to-one conversations. These interactions, often sensitive, are invaluable for spotting emerging risks, safeguarding issues, and broader wellbeing trends.

3

Wellbeing Insiders Insights

Through gamification and structured tracking, this tool highlights how wellbeing champions are engaging in self-development and proactive initiatives. It offers leaders a grassroots perspective, ensuring champion networks remain energised and effective.

Together, these tools reduce reliance on large surveys and instead build a richer, real-time picture of wellbeing. By embedding measurement into action, they help leaders make quicker, better-informed decisions — and prove that wellbeing is driving performance and culture.
