As Kier’s wellbeing partner, we are here to help you build onsite engagement with body composition events.

Book your Body Composition Testing

Body composition testing (BCT) and nutrition / lifestyle consultations are a tried-and-tested way to build engagement and create a buzz around wellbeing. We’ll gather feedback on the day which we compile into a report for you, including participants’ interest in specific topics or further testing at a later stage.

The testing is a great way to keep people motivated and engaged on a long-term basis. We recommend running quarterly, 6 monthly or annual follow-up testing sessions to track progress and provide continued support and accountability.

What is Body Composition Testing?

Body composition testing is a short, non-invasive test which takes less than 2 minutes and provides key body statistics and an understanding of how they relate to risk factors for health.

  • Fat % and mass
  • Muscle % and mass
  • Weight and BMI (however our focus is much more on health factors than weight)
  • Visceral fat level
  • Basal metabolic rate
  • Metabolic age
Please note: Bare feet will be required to do the test (socks or tights must be removed) – otherwise our scales will not work! The scales will also require your height and your sex assigned at birth (M/F) to provide a calculation.
What does the session involve?
The sessions are run either as individual drop ins or 30-minute small group sessions, depending on your team’s preference. It’s a good idea to schedule a mix, e.g. 3x 30minute group sessions (with up to 6 people in each) followed by 3x 30minute drop-in sessions (with up to 6 individual tests per slot). Small group sessions have the benefit of encouraging peer support and social interaction during the Q&A.
In the small group sessions, the tests are carried out individually at the start of the session – each test is very quick and conducted confidentially, where results are provided to each person on a printout.
Once all attendees have their results, the facilitator (a registered nutritionist) will explain to the group all the elements of the report, what they mean in terms of health risk factors and most importantly, what steps can be taken in terms of nutrition and other habits to bring about improvements, and reductions in metabolic age.
We aim to take a down to earth, practical approach with a message very much focused on positive steps and the fact that all the results can be changed, sometimes very significantly, in as little as 3 months, by making selected adjustments. Frequently this will focus on replacing foods with hidden sugar sources with foods which are more filling and nutritious and reducing food cravings and improving energy levels.
Each group session leaves plenty of room for Q&A, specific discussions around food ideas and interaction among the group.
How are the sessions run?
We recommend running half-hour slots back-to-back with up to 6 people in each to encourage peer support and interaction. In each half-day session, we will be able to run 6 sessions (up to 36 attending), and we will be able to run 12 sessions (up to 72 participants) in a full-day session.
We’ll set up all the promotional material for you (e.g. email invitation and printable posters). We recommend allowing some open sessions for people to drop in if they decide to on the day – this usually happens a lot on first visits, since people are finding out for the first time what to expect and will often want to attend after hearing feedback from colleagues.
Is the testing suitable for everyone?
Body Composition Testing is not suitable for those who are pregnant or those who have a pacemaker fitted.
What are the benefits?
Body composition testing is a great way to engage staff who may be initially sceptical about participating in wellbeing initiatives. We often find that it creates a real buzz in a workplace, and as the day progresses, more and more employees are keen to find out their metabolic age.
The test is very quick to do, and the face-to-face nature of the initiative means that our facilitators can build a rapport and trust with participants, sharing information in a supportive and non-judgemental way.
The focus is very much on health – as opposed to weight loss – and sharing a positive and encouraging message about adjustments to daily habits which are achievable and realistic. Most often the advice is not to ‘eat less’ but to include more of the nutrient-rich foods which keep hunger and cravings at bay, improving energy levels and mood throughout the day. Participants leave the session feeling excited about the small changes they can make (e.g. adding more protein to their breakfast) which will have immediate as well as a long term benefits for their health and how they feel.
Whereas health checks in isolation can leave participants feeling worried about their results and unsure about steps to take, the mini-consultation and group Q&A led by a registered nutritionist places the focus firmly on support, actionable steps and the message that the results can be improved, with sometimes dramatic results in just a few weeks.
What resources do participants receive?
Each participant will receive:
  • A printout of their results and explanatory handout
  • An action plan card to add their personal action steps and keep as a reminder – this will include a QR code
  • The QR code will provide access to an online library including videos and a library of downloadable tip sheets and recipes.
What is the pricing involved?
£709+VAT per half day (equivalent to approx. £19.69 per person)
£1260+VAT per full day (equivalent to approx. £17.50 per person)
This price includes:
  • All support needed to promote the sessions (email invitations and posters)
  • Action plan card and unlimited access to the online library via QR code for each participant
  • Feedback gathering and reporting post-session
Travel costs are incurred for any journey above 50 miles one-way at a standard rate of 45p per mile. We will always endeavour to book a facilitator who is based closest to the location. Early morning starts, later finishes or other times when an overnight stay is required may incur a hotel cost. Exact cost to be specified but this is estimated at an average of £95 per night. All travel costs will be confirmed at booking stage.
